DESCRIPTION:
APW - Hamilton, "C & E.I. R.R." (Chicago & Eastern Illinois Railroad) marked mvt, Grade 924, 17J, 18S, nickel OF display case with Hamilton marked bezels, "Veatch, Rossville, Ill." marked white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, nickel damascene, s#214224. A rare railroad marked watch, J.W. Veatch was a jeweler in Rossville, Illinois which was located along the Chicago & Eastern Illinois RR route. Interestingly we note this present watch is the consecutive serial number to an identically marked example we sold previously in 2017.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, winds stiffly, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some short scratches and surface nicks around case screw areas, area of abrasion to main plate in area between balance cock and center jewel, some typical mild fine to micro-fine scratches elsewhere, one balance wheel spar (arm) with discoloration; dial with very faint hl above seconds-register, partially patched edge flake under bezel near 5, small edge nick under bezel at 4; fine hands with areas of oxide and finish loss, minute with some bends; case shows light wear, some fine scratches and small nicks, rear of pendant with empty hole for a stem detent screw; tight bow, crown shows light wear; glass crystals with some fine scratches and small nicks.
